This is the first photo I ever took with a DSLR. It was when I first bought my Nikon D40. What a journey it has been since then. There is nothing I can say about this photo technically that would make any sense. I had no idea about photography back then and would just find something I liked the look of and shoot.

The shot was converted to black & white because I decided that as a colour photograph it was too busy. It was the beginning of Fall, the leaves were multiple colours ranging from light to dark and green to orange. The black & white moves the attention towards what I think is a great composition considering it was pure luck. Although the farmhouse sits centrally in the frame the gateway leads the eye to it. There is a diagonal line that moves the eye from bottom right to middle left. I also like the simple feel of the shot – the white farmhouse accents the scene.
