Chipmunk (no.1)

Being up here in the North, I have noticed there are no squirrels. At least I haven’t seen any. This is wonderful for two reasons 1. My dog doesn’t chase them towards moving cars 2. They don’t eat the bird food I put out.

Evening Grosbeak

This is the first picture I have ever taken of an Evening Grosbeak. These birds are stunning and their colours pop wherever they land.

Canada Day in Ottawa

Being a new-comer to Canada it was to my great delight that Canadians spent an entire day celebrating beer! At least I think that it is what 1st July is all about. This shot sums up my experiences of Canada Day in Ottawa – best viewed from afar (and on top of a really tall building)!

Sunrise over Lac St. Pierre, QC

I have posted a sunrise over Lac St. Pierre previously, however this one was from slightly earlier in the day. With very little post-production completed on this one (small amount of level and curve work) it is about as close as I come to straight out of camera.

The Old Mill, Wakefield

I have a love/hate relationship with Wakefield, QC. If you go there completely off-season e.g. middle of the week mid-November when it is raining, there is no-one around it is quite a quaint little village. If you go when the fall colours are out, or middle of the summer, then good luck! In fact, good luck getting across the bridge into Hull/Gatineau from Ottawa!

Common Loon (no.4)

Another Loon shot! This is probably the last one, well maybe one more… I almost didn’t post this one. It has so many photographic flaws to it, however I was persuaded to do so, so here it is.

Two Loon posts in one day – woah!! Yeah I know, getting crazy here. New job affords time off that is actually time off, so I can get back into photography.

Taken on the same trip to the cottage as Common Loon (no.1), it was taken later in the evening, hence the golden light on the white tail feathers.

I have never looked too closely at orchids before, well actually I didn’t look at any flowers closely. With a macro lens it is difficult not to.

Last summer I had the good fortune to be able to spend some time on Lac St. Pierre near Wakefield, Quebec. The lake is stunning and is quite large with lots of bays to explore.
