Glass Thistle - Daily Photo

105mm :: ISO 200 :: 1/6s at f/16

The house we live in is a little on the old side in Canadian terms. There are two windows on the main floor that have a pane of what can only be described as 3D patterned glass. The idea of taking a photo of it had never occurred to me, as it’s just there… all the time. My wife, knowing I am trying the daily photo project, mentioned it might make a good subject - so it has gone from just being there, to the subject of daily photo #5, and I’m good with it.

As you can tell from the title of this website, thistles are definitely part of my heritage, so the whole idea from start to finish works very well indeed.

I will say I had to move the camera into a rather precarious position to be able to take the photo, as the top pane of glass is around 7 feet from the ground.

The sun was setting, and as such gives the shot a warmer light. There is a green plant outside on the front porch, hence the overall green tone.
